VIII Strength

From an exercise in Greer's Tarot for Yourself.

My personality and Soul Card is VIII Strength.
"What can you teach me about what I need to learn in this lifetime?"

The Lion
There is the hunt. It is what one does to survive. There is pleasure in it. The speed, the chase, but it is also work. There is an order for things. There are those at the top and those who eat last. The very last are the scavengers. They don't do their own work, so they do not get the choice parts. You must always watch. Learn the habits of the prey. Watch even when you are not hungry. There is time for rest. In the sun with the cubs playing. Strength conserved until needed. It is the pride that must survive. I am king, but she is the one who is dangerous. The lioness is sleek and swift. She is what makes the pride strong renewing it. Strength is simply part of your life. You are born with it. When it fails you will die. Teeth, claws, muscles are tools. I bite her when we make love. The claws retract when shooing the cubs away. Muscles tire and sometimes the hunt fails and everyone is hungry. There are other forces the prey has to help it overcome your strength, wit, agility, speed, and the greatest equalizer, blind luck. You were born with the strength. You have no choice but to use it as best as you can.
